Noah Tyson Park is a small park nestled in the forest along Black Bayou Lake in northern Caddo Parish. It is almost completely surrounded by a cypress swamp. The central portion of the park consists of a ridge containing a mature mixed pine-hardwood forest that provides excellent habitat for woodland songbirds. In the woodland, nesting species such as Great-crested Flycatcher, Yellow-throated, Red-eyed, and White-eyed Vireos, Northern Parula and Pine Warbler can be observed. Among the nesting swamp species are Barred Owl, Pileated Woodpecker, Prothonotary Warbler and Yellow-throated Warbler.
The center of this park, along with Hudgens Camp Road leading into the park, are set on slightly higher ground than the surrounding cypress swamp. So, the mixed pine-hardwood forest along the entry road and through the park area results in a sort of "island effect" for woodland songbirds, including Yellow-throated Vireo, Wood Thrush, Hermit Thrush, and Pine, Kentucky, and Orange-crowned Warblers. Only nine linear acres in size, there is no need for trails. Instead the road itself becomes the trail here. A cleared right-of-way has a small wetland area along with tall grasses and thickets–perfect nesting/resting habitat for woodland edge species, including the Red-shouldered Hawk. Ditto for the wax myrtle and greenbrier densely lining the edges of the surrounding swamp. Here check for White-eyed Vireo, Orange-crowned Warbler, House Wren, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, and other thicket-loving species.
The boat launch and a pier provide viewing opportunities for Wood Duck, Black-necked Stilt, Greater Yellowlegs, Pectoral and Semipalmated Sandpipers, Double-crested Cormorant, and other waterbirds.
There is also a dock, a pavilion with restrooms, picnic tables, and playground equipment. Boating, kayaking, and fishing are popular recreational activities.
