Go through entry into Riverfront Park and take wooden nature boardwalk out to Sabine River lookout.

Logansport Riverfront Park is located on the Sabine River above Toledo Bend Reservoir. The small, serene park is perched on a bluff overlooking a beautiful stretch of the river at the Louisiana-Texas border. This means there’s ample opportunity to observe numerous birds moving up and down the river.

Habitat-wise, a paved walkway leads from the pavilion around the playground and through a patch of flooded bottomland hardwoods. The edge of woods along the path includes thickets that play host to vireos, sparrows, wrens, and others.

Some more frequently observed species here include the Wood Duck, Pied-billed Grebe, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Red-shouldered Hawk, Ring-billed Gull, Belted Kingfisher, along with several swallows such as Tree, Bank, Northern Rough-winged, Barn and Purple Martin.

A large group of Black Vultures utilizes the trees upriver from the park as a winter roost. Common passerine birds include Eastern Phoebe, Great-crested Flycatcher, Eastern Bluebird, Carolina Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Wren, Winter Wren, White-throated Sparrow, Northern Parula, Prothonotary Warbler, Hooded Warbler, Northern Cardinal, and Baltimore Oriole.

Logansport Riverfront Park is the perfect "leg-stretcher" for traveling birders. This charming little town's historic status as a major steamboat stop is a big plus for history buffs. Amenities include paved parking, restrooms, a large pavilion, a floating dock, and a playground. The site is handicapped-accessible. Additional recreational opportunities include fishing and nature photography.
