The Cajun Coast Welcome Center in Morgan City is situated on an acre of mature cypress-tupelo gum swamp habitat. This small site offers a beautiful view of the swamp habitat from the safety and convenience of an observation deck wrapping around the building. Tree species in the swamp are limited to bald cypress and tupelo gum, with a midstory of black willow and buttonbush. Soft rush and alligator weed decorate the floor of the swamp.

The center has its own resident Red-shouldered Hawks. Wading birds are constant visitors, and include species such as Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, and Roseate Spoonbill. In fall, winter, and spring, Bald Eagles can be seen soaring above or perched on one of the many cypress trees. Other common species include Anhinga, Brown Pelican, Belted Kingfisher, and Loggerhead Shrike.

Additional swamp denizens to look for include several species of water snakes, alligators, and turtles. Amenities include paved parking, identification signage, restrooms/water, a gift shop, and a boardwalk/observation deck. The center has interpretative displays and tourist information. Fully handicapped-accessible.
